Jacopo Casasola

Jacopo Casasola (Udine, 2000) is a musician and composer based in Bologna.

His work focuses on electroacoustic music and installation art, resulting from a particular attention to the relationship between sound and spatial perception.

He began his musical journey studying electric bass in rock and jazz contexts before developing an interest in electronic music and the use of timbre and sound itself as the primary compositional material. He holds a diploma in Sound Engineering from the Accademia del Cinema in Bologna and a three-year diploma in Electronic Music from the Conservatorio G.B. Martini in Bologna, where he is currently pursuing a two-year course in Sound Design.

Among his practices is an interest in hybridizing sound with other expressive forms in order to find new points of connection.

SOUND INSTALLATION

La nascita della tragedia

Sound installation for eight speakers (2024)

An energetic leap into a world of perception, singularity, consciousness, and awareness of one’s finitude: to be born means to confront time.

It is a process that emerges from darkness, from the absence of time, from non-existence, devoid of will, tragic in certain respects, yet bursting with joy, inexplicably transporting us into a universe made up of motions, energies, and processes that govern us. As we turn the hourglass, we await the end; we await our non-existence.

My work for La nascita della tragedia attempts to engage with this space, describing the joy and dismay of this process: the tragedy of birth, the birth of tragedy, a representation of the Dionysian spirit.
